Maths – Different Ways To Understand Symmetry

Symmetry is when one shape becomes exactly like another if you flip, slide or turn it.

The simplest type of Symmetry is “Reflection” (or “Mirror”) Symmetry, as shown in the picture of the dog.

There is also Rotational Symmetry and Point Symmetry.

Today we will have many different ways you can explore symmetry. You will be grouped and over the next few days you will get an opportunity to explore what symmetry is and how it works.

You might make a symmetry bug, draw the symmetry of a photo, use a mirror or lego or you may make a tessellation pattern.
