While travelling in Europe to participate in BMX competitions, Traralgon Local boy Nick Funston has given his time to a class of 3/4 students.
Mrs Joyce is always looking for inspirational people to share with her class. The students of 3/4J know all about refugee camps in Jordan, amazing artists like Joel Bergner (www.joelartista.com) , the endless and mesmerising work of Kutoa ( www.kutoa.org ). They travel the world with Joy Sun Bear ( www.joysunbear.com ) and tweet to world leader such Andrew Harper from UNICEF coordinating Camp Zaartari and other refugee camps for Syrian refugees.
Nick is a local Traralgon boy and someone Mrs Joyce thought the class could connect with on a personal level. By chance Mrs Joyce’s daughter Maddison is friends with Nick and this enabled contact with Nick in Europe. Students were inspired by his story and that he rides a BMX bike just like them. In class the students prepared questions and messages to find out about his life his love for the sport of BMX riding.
After sending Nick their questions this morning at 1.27am Mrs Joyce received a reply. Nick had messaged the class and answered the questions the were wanting to know about.Take a look:
Here is a video of Nick that Mrs Joyce found on Youtube we think he is an inspiration and we hope when he returns to Australia he will pay us a visit and take to us about his sport and show us some of his tricks.
